Cyprian Consiglio, OSB, Cam
Cyprian Consiglio, OSB Cam, is a monk of New Camaldoli Hermitage in Big Sur. Fr. Cyprian brings his great musical talent and love of God together to explore the realm of contact between humans and their Creator. Building on both Eastern and Western traditions of spirituality, his music draws on strands from both to touch the hearts of his listeners and lead them into a deeper relationship with the divine.
Fr. Cyprian’s compositions include works from Hebrew and Christian scriptures, as well as the scriptures and traditions of other cultures and religious. His experience as a professional musician, composer and arranger allows him to bring a wide variety of musical traditions and styles to his works. He believes all are called to the experience and practice of contemplation, a call expressed as the Universal Call to Contemplation. For Fr. Cyprian, the call is expressed through spirituality and the arts.
Fr. Cyprian lived for many years in a hermitage near Santa Cruz, CA. During that time he traveled extensively both as a performer and teacher. His albums have been published by a variety of liturgical presses, including Oregon Catholic Press and Equilibrium. He is a member of the Collegeville Composers Group that developed the Psallite: Songs for Liturgy and Life project for Liturgical Press.
Fr. Cyprian is currently Prior of New Camaldoli Hermitage. We are blessed to have the monks of New Camoldoli and Fr. Cyprian among us here on California’s Central Coast.
